And You repeat the process until one day you throw your hands in the air and say, “I give up!”

This is what I call the “Distribute and Pray” approach. You distribute marketing materials and HOPE that it generates sales and increases profits.

(Trust me, I have been there)

Unfortunately, hope doesn’t pay bills.  

And even though might get lucky once and a while, “hope marketing” isn’t a reliable strategy if your business really needs to grow and to become a brand.

The thing is: it’s not your fault. 

I know you work hard and produce great products. And I’m sure that if you asked 100 people, 99 would say your business deserves more credits.

But it’s almost impossible to bring customers as long as you do “PUSH” marketing, which is nothing but marketing to everyone even if they don’t need your service.

As you’ve probably seen firsthand, the “print marketing” approach sounds nice in

I tried the whole “if you distribute it, they will come” approach to promoting our food businesses in our marketplace.

When I asked him, “Who is your target audience?”, He said, “Anyone who eats in Chennai”

Thank goodness. He didn’t say, “Anyone who has a mouth in Chennai”

Don’t you think how flawed this thought is? 

If he is not clearly aware about who he is going to sell to, he will only spend time and money promoting it to the wrong audience, and eventually he will have to shut his business.

But Venkatesh is not the only one who is doing it wrong. There are many other entrepreneurs who are doing it wrong, as well.

They are either not aware of the “TARGET AUDIENCE” concept, or even if they are aware, they are not sure how to define or identify their target audience.

But, no worries. I have prepared a step by step checklist that will help you define your target audience clearly.

I am going to give that checklist when you register with our marketplace. This will help you clearly identify and define your target audience.

Once you are clear about who your target audience are, there are plenty of ways in which you can target them to sell your products and services. Some of them include Facebook Campaigns, Google Adsense, Google Pay Per Click Advertising, Native advertisements, Content marketing, Blogging etc.

Even if they manage to get subscribers and followers by SPAMMING, these fans, however, aren’t worth much of anything.

You must first realize that not everyone is going to become a real fan. 

Even if you go out of the way and do something more memorable for every person you meet, not everyone is going to connect with you and tell everyone about you.

But, that’s okay.

You don’t need lukewarm dabblers for your work. 

What you want is die-hard fans who can feel your work is theirs and are ready to go leaps and bounds to promote your work.

One well known example that I can give here is the fans of Apple. 

Whenever apple launches a new product, the die-hard fans of apple queue up in front of apple stores even before the store opens.

They are the people who want to FIRST grab the new device and tell their friends about it and feel proud. 

We have even read crazy stories about people selling organs to get their hands on a new apple device.

I’m not suggesting you to create such crazy fans. 

What I’m suggesting you is to create Real Fans who are in love with your work, and will promote your business, for you.

As long as you have real fans for your business, it makes you become more responsible in your business, and compels you to exceed their expectations, which in turn will help you in your brand building.

That’s what having real fans can do to you.
